Harnaaz Sandhu

Harnaaz Kaur Sandhu (born March 3, 2000) is an Indian model who won the Miss Universe 2021 pageant. Sandhu was previously named Miss Wild Universe 2021 and is the third nominee to win Miss Universe India.

Subsequently, Sandhu was named in the 2019 Femina Miss India Punjab pageant and reached the semifinals of the Femina Miss India 2019 pageant.

Early life and education

Sandhu was born and raised to a Sikh family in Chandigarh. She attended Shivalik Public School and the Women's Higher Institute of Technology in Chandigarh. Before Sandhu became Miss Universe, Sandhu had a master's degree in public administration.

Pageantry

Sandhu started competing as a teenager, winning titles such as Miss Chandigarh 2017 and Miss Max Emerging Star India 2018. After winning the Femina Miss India Punjab 2019 title, Sandhu entered the Femina Miss India competition and eventually entered the top 12.

Miss Diva 2021

On August 16, 2021, Sandhu was selected among the 50 best semi-finalists for the Miss Diva 2021 competition. And on August 23, she was confirmed as one of the top 20 finalists for the Miss Diva TV competition. In qualifying on September 22nd, Sandu won the Miss Beautiful Skin award and was a finalist for Miss Beach Body, Miss Beautiful Smile, Miss Photogenic and Miss Talentted.

Sandhu, one of 10 semi-finalists in the first round of Miss Diva 2021, said:

"From a young girl with fragile mental health who faced bullying and body shaming to a woman who emerged like a phoenix, realising her true potential. From an individual who once doubted her own existence to a woman who is aspiring to inspire the youth. Today, I stand proudly in front of the Universe as a courageous, vivacious and a compassionate woman who is all set to lead a life with a purpose, and to leave behind a remarkable legacy."

He was chosen for the next competition. In the final questions and answers, the top 5 participants shared their views on various topics selected by the participants through the lottery. In voting for global warming and climate change, Sandhu said:

"One day, life will flash before your eyes, make sure it's worth watching. However, this is not the life you want to watch, where the climate is changing and the environment is dying. It is one of the fiasco that us humans have done to the environment. I do believe that we still have time to undo our irresponsible behaviour. Earth is all we have in common and our small acts as individuals when multiplied by billions can transform the whole world. Start now, from tonight, switch off those extra lights when not in use. Thank you."

At the end of the event, Sandhu was crowned titleholder Adlin Castelino.

Miss Universe 2021

As Miss 2021 Miss Diva, Sandhu is qualified to represent India in Miss Universe 2021. The pageant will take place on December 12, 2021 in Eilat, Israel. Sandhu climbed to the final 16 in the initial group of 80 contenders and then climbed to the top 10, top 5 and 3 before becoming the winner. She became the third Indian woman to receive the Miss Universe title after winning.
